Having a multi-club membership with GoodLife allows me to visit various locations depending on my schedule and what part of the city I am in.
The origins of this post started from me making passing jokes about my experiences going to various GoodLife Fitness Locations and how I give them mental grades based on my experience.
Full disclosure, each ranking is based on more than just one experience at the mentioned location. So it can be considered a recurring theme. The categories that will be ranked/rated are:
Facility Overall; size, layout, amenities (pool, sauna/steam, squash, basketball)
Facility Cleanliness; is it clean?
Equipment; Do they have a variety of machines
Staff; Good customer service, knowledgeable, helpful, pro-active, enforce Covid Rules
Members; Good etiquette, abide by COVID rules, friendliness
Hours; 24/7, 24/4, etc.
GoodLife Fitness Markham Yonge & Kirk ★★★★★
Overall: ★★★★★
The facility is quite large with a good layout of sections. One of my favourite locations to come to.
Cleanliness: ★★★★★
Equipment: ★★★★★
There is good variety and availability of equipment, if the machine you require isn't available there is always an alternative machine that will work the same muscle group. They have treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, a wide variety of dumbbells, numerous barbell/lifting platforms including olympic plates, and various machines. I never struggle to find the machine or weight I need for my workouts.
Staff: ★★★★★
The staff is friendly and always willing to listen and address member concerns and provide support where applicable.
Members: ★★★★
- A diverse mix of ages.
- The members tend to keep to themselves. Haven't come across any creepy people.
- They are friendly and approachable so you can feel free to ask them how many sets they have left, they also tend to clean their weights and machines after use, sometimes even before using it which is a nice fun fact.
- The only con is that members tend to not put their weights away properly or in an orderly manner. Different weighted plates are often mixed together when racked.
Hours: ★★★
Used to be 24 hour location, but due to COVID is not. Hours vary from weekday to weekend but typically open within the reasonable hours of 6am-11pm or 8am-8pm
GoodLife Fitness Markham Markville Mall ★★★★
Overall: ★★★★
The facility is not too big. Equipment could be laid out more efficiently
Cleanliness: ★★★★★
Equipment: ★★★★
they have all the essential machines and bare minimum weights (dumbbells and plates), but would prefer to have more variety and availability.
Staff: ★★★★
The staff is friendly, but seems to try to keep to themselves.
Members: ★★★
- Mostly young adults and young professionals
- They tend to come in either pairs or groups which is nice, however, it does feel like they are watching and judging.
- Members do not put plates and dumbbells according to weight order as indicated on the racks.
Hours: ★★★★★
24/7!
GoodLife Fitness Mississauga Heartland Town Centre ★★★★
Overall: ★★★★
The facility has a great open floor layout. Great for weightlifters and general fitness enthusiasts. Not so much for those looking to go hard and fast or hardcore.
Cleanliness: ★★★★★
Equipment: ★★★★
they have all the essential machines and bare minimum weights (dumbbells and plates), but would prefer to have more variety and availability.
Staff: N/A
Did not engage with staff at all beyond check-in.
Members: ★★★
- A pretty good mix of young adults to middle aged retirees.
- Not the type of crowd that is good if you would like to go hard and fast on the cardio. You'll get stares and cut eye from them.
Hours: ★★★★★
24/7!
