When it comes to supporting artists and content creators it does not necessarily mean sponsoring or funding their content, but more engaging and promoting it. Within the vast world of social media and technology there are so many small, quick and easy ways to not only show your support for an artist but also help support them on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, etc. This article will explain the small tips and tricks you can effortlessly do that will in fact go a long way in helping artists and content creators to grow their audience and following.
1. Like their Content
Liking content is not just about showing other people how popular you are. For artists and content creators it is more about showing the Social Media Algorithm gods that your content is interesting and engaging so that you can appear in the discover feed where people that don't already follow you can discover you. By liking the artist / creator's content you are actually helping them reach a bigger audience, especially if you like content soon after they post (see item 6).
Go the extra mile by also liking + reacting to their stories as it tells algorithms that it's not just their posts that are engaging but their overall personality.
2. Comment & Tag
Engage with their content by commenting on their posts. If you know a specific artist tag them and give them a shout out, but also, if they are collaborating with another artist, try and be sensitive and give them a shout out as well.
3. Watch Their Video to the End
This is another algorithm hack. Sometimes, if you've seen the content video before it was posted or on another social platform or channel, you will tend to just like the post to show your support, but it's important to watch the video all the way through so that the algorithm reads the content as interesting and engaging.
In summary, for video content, don't just like it right away and keep scrolling. Watch the content through to the end, even if you've already seen it before (on another social channel, offline, etc).
4. Save their posts/content
Hit that banner icon to save posts! This indicates to the social media algorithm that you enjoyed the content so much that you "intend" to revisit that post at another time; maybe to show a friend, or to "remix" or copy the content as a trend.
5. Share Content
There are many ways to share content.
- You can add it to your story (be sure to tag the artists/creators in the post)
- Send it directly to people interested in the content/genre through direct messages. Ask them to like, comment, share, and save. Who knows you might even result in the artist you are supporting to get more followers.
- Share a link to the content via whatsapp/text/messenger. This indicates engagement to the algorithm, but also helps boost reach to audiences that might not be on social media but can watch it without an account if the artist/content creator has a public profile.
6. Turn on post notifications
Referring to a point made in "Like their Content" the sooner you engage with their content the better it is for the algorithm to push it in feeds; hashtags, sounds, and discover. So stay on top of your friends and family who are artists and turn on those post notifications!
